Youth Expectations

The following is a list of expectations for participants and parents in the upcoming youth wrestling season. We ask that parents review these with their kids prior to practice.

KIDS
• Do your best to arrive early for practice so you can be dressed and ready to go
• Give coaches your full attention, “eyes & ears”
• Be a good wrestling partner
• NEVER say “I can’t”
• Don’t give up, keep trying
• Don’t walk on the mats with your street shoes. If you forget your wrestling shoes, wrestle in your socks.
• Ask the coaches questions if you’re having trouble with a skill
• Go to the bathroom before practice starts
• Stay in the wrestling room. We don’t want anyone wandering off.
• Always display good sportsmanship
• Don’t get upset if you don’t have instant success. Many great wrestlers struggled at first with the sport. They became great with hard work and refusing to give up.
• Have fun!

PARENTS
• Do your best to arrive early for practice so your wrestler can be dressed and ready to go
• Please visit quietly on the side if you choose to stay and watch practices
• Please do not leave children not wrestling unattended
• Be encouraging to your wrestler
• Don’t walk on the mats with your street shoes. There are limited chairs for viewing practice. We don’t mind if you sit on the mats and watch, if there is room off to the side, just please remove your street shoes first.
• Coaches will have limited time to address questions during practice. Please feel free to e-mail us or call us with any issues.
• Always display good sportsmanship. The kids are watching and follow our lead.
• Don’t get upset if your wrestler doesn’t have instant success. Many great wrestlers struggled at first with the sport. They became great with hard work and refusing to give up. Keep encouraging them. This sport is different than other sports and can do a lot to positively shape its participants.
• Volunteer to help in any way you can. We need all talents including helper coaches during practices.
• Have fun!
